Costonoa KOA.. those plastic wedges actually do something!

May 10 - 12, 2013 Costonoa KOA - Pescadero

I just looked at Tripadvisor to get the name right, I am really surprised this place had such mixed reviews.  It was the first time this year when we did a full weekend, the days are getting longer and work is not AS crazy now so we could take off at a decent time on Friday.  We headed over the hill and went north to Pescadero!  We got in a little late and it was CHILLY, but still light out.  We had requested a spot that would back towards the water (doesn't really matter there is no view from any of the spots, the water is across the freeway!) But we were on the first loop which did seem to be the best.  Of course we were the last to pull in so everyone was out in their chairs watching us.  Our tiny little airstream seems to gather attention wherever we go!  Rob did a great job of backing in (for sure was not one of the most difficult places).  Then he decided that we needed to be leveled right/left. like really leveled (2 blocks of leveling!)  Kind of surprised at a $100 a night place you would need to be that jacked up!  They could do a better job of paving!

Anyways we got the blocks down, Rob pulled the trailer forward, looked level... so we started to unhitch.  I meanwhile am getting the inside ready and going about my chores when I hear this big CRASH and SCREEEEEEETCH... umm "Rob what was that?" I calmly ask not knowing the severity of the situation! I come outside to find Rob with his arms crossed and a perplexed look on his face.  he said "umm we rolled back off the blocks and the only thing holding the airstream is the chains on the FJ"  and now I see the situation and our hitch stand is a little bent and has been scraped a good 12 inches on the pavement.  So we back away from the situation and think.  Ok we put those plastic flimsly looking wedges behind the tires (now the airstream can go no further back).  We back the FJ up and relive the tension on the chains, then we rehitch and go back up on the blocks to level and relive the pressure on the hitch stand.  All of this with no yelling or screaming.  Lesson learned, those little wedge things actually do something!  Not sure how great of a night of sleep I had, as I was constantly worried we were going to roll off the blocks again... but we didn't and it all worked out.

We spent Saturday in downtown Pescadero.  We started at a Goat Farm, then headed to lunch, and picked up some of the famous Artichoke Garlic bread and a tri-tip to grill for dinner.  It was a great weekend and we will for sure be back here!
